The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) represents the centralized gateway for admissions into central, state, deemed, and private universities across India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the platform handles millions of registrations for both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) cohorts. Given the immense volume, the NTA deploys automated algorithms designed to discard any document that fails exact geometric, facial, or file-size criteria.

1. The NTA 80% Face Coverage Mandate

The primary reason CUET candidates receive administrative discrepancy notices is failing the "80% face coverage" rule. Standard studio passport photos typically capture the chest, full shoulders, and broad upper torso. Submitting a wide shot of this nature to the NTA portal triggers an immediate algorithmic flag.

The NTA requires your face to occupy at least 80% of the photograph's vertical area. The bottom boundary of the crop should stop right below your collarbones. Your chin, lips, nose, eyes, and forehead must dominate the picture.

2. Photograph Dimension and File Size Rules

3. Signature Specifications (140x60 Pixels)

The signature upload follows an aspect ratio of 140 pixels wide by 60 pixels high, with an allowed file weight between 10 KB and 50 KB.

  1. Sign on a clean sheet of white paper using a dark black gel pen or felt-tip pen. A bold black stroke ensures clean contrast when digital compression is applied.
  2. Avoid signing in ALL CAPITAL letters. The NTA mandates that signatures reflect a candidate's continuous, natural running script.
